Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell began her professional career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. Mitchell was hired by the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington, she was appointed general correspondent for NBC News a year later. In 1981 began covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs reporter in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell played both presenter and a panelist in the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell was part of the panel during the 1988 presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell has a husband, Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her contribution to defend First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first reported on for the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell reported on a variety of notable stories, including the Iran-contra affair and budget tax reform. She traveled alongside Ronald Reagan throughout his numerous trips for world summits and wrote frequently.
